Daffodils
Today is the Spring Equinox. I wish that with the arrival of spring meant no more worrying about a cold snap and getting a hard frost. The lead up to spring in SC is rocky. Yesterday was 80 and today the high is 60. One minute you are playing in the hose and the next you are wearing sweaters. Some things will survive the temperature springs some things will not.If my runny nose and itchy eyes are telling me that pollen is here and the flowers have decided to take a chance. I have a few things that shine in early in spring. Spring bulbs are the easiest flowers and the most rewarding. Every fall I buy a few more and add them to what I hope will become my daffodil/bulb meadow.
I love daffodils. When I begin to think that spring will never come they pop through brining with it hope of warmer weather and spring planting to come. The flower named after Narcissus who fell in love with his own reflection. When the time came for Narcissus's funeral, people came to where he lay, but found no body. All that was left of Narcissus was the six-petalled white flower arranged around a golden centre that was named after him.
